House Eglin - Gqunube Green Eco Village |
Much progress on House Eglin has been made recently. The dwelling which is part of the Gqunube Green Eco Village, near East London (Eastern Cape) is predominantly an Adobe (Mud Brick) and Stone Construction with a planted roof. All Adobe Bricks where made on site. Alien gum trees from close by where harvested according to the Moon Phase harvesting principles. The timber will be used for the pergolas and roof trusses. The design of the house includes a bedroom and a study with open plan living. Furthermore it also has a separate flatlet and garage/workshop, which is connected to the main house via a courtyard. Additional green technologies which have been integrated are Dry Composting Toilets (Twin Vault System), a Trombe Wall, LED lighting throughout the house, Hot water Solar heating and a natural pool which is combined with the rain water collection.
